Summer STARs Club – Overview

Dear Activity Provider,

The Monroe School District is part of a developing coalition called Community Leadership Network.  This network is about the community engagement of leaders of the schools, city, businesses, churches, and other non-profit organizations through collaborative relationships and coordinated efforts to build “community” through the leadership of our people.

This network utilizes the Leadership STAR as a tool for communicating  five specific universal principles that relate to human potential, relational growth, and a “community” experience within our families, workplaces and city.

Character Empowered Leadership

Community Engagement Star

For many years now, the Monroe School District has been involved in providing free meals to all kids up to 18 years old through the summer. Our heart has been to help our families who are in need. This past year we have become more intentional about providing activities and experiences for these kids… along with a leadership path through what is called Summer STARs Club.

Chris Waltman is the director of a non-profit organization called STARs Unlimited and is helping to facilitate Community Leadership Network (CLN) as well as Summer STARs Club. This is a community project to not only help kids in need, but provide a path for all kids and a plan for families to develop and grow into learners for life through the light of leadership.

We are looking forward to the start of this years effort and can only do this effectively through the involvement and creativity of our community. Please contact Chris by emailing him with any questions, and to let him know where you can fit on the calendar.

The following pages outline the schedule, the calendar, and some thoughts about the leadership themes that you can incorporate in how you share about yourself, your sport, or crafts, or learning activities and experiences for the kids for the days you are on site.

We have a unique and wonderful community. Thank you for being part of this Leadership Network, and for your part in making a difference in the lives of kids and families!

The Best to You,
Ken Hoover
